The problem
Procurement runs on phone calls and guesswork.
Materials are ordered by calling three dealers, taking the best number anyone remembers quoting, and hoping the vehicle turns up before the crew runs out of work. Nobody on the site can see the price, the stock or the truck — and the delay costs more than the material.
